Carla designs and constructs custom clothing for the individual, a passion first made evident when she felt compelled to make clothes for the stuffed animals she and her sister played with when Carla was just six years old.
As a teenager, when Carla played guitar in an all-girl band, she made stage wear for the group.
Carla received a Bachelor of Science degree in the Fashion Merchandising, Textile and Design Program at the University of Rhode Island.
Since completing her studies, the designer has been busy creating distinctive sportswear and eveningwear for a variety of clients and occasions.
Later, while living in Hawaii, her designs were featured at Nuage Bleu Boutique in Paia, she was a partner in an artist co-op in Makawao, and served as a design consultant for Maui Life Clothing Company. She also designed and made uniforms for several Maui Restaurants, including the Chart House.
Other design projects have included bridal dresses and parties, team uniforms, men’s Hawaiian Shirts, and prize-winning Halloween costumes. One of Carla’s dresses even made it to a Hollywood film premiere!
Most recently, the designer has collaborated with her husband, Mick Souza (AAU Mr. America 1989 &NABBA Mr. Universe 1992) to create a new product line. Carla’s knowledge of fashion design and construction combined with Mick’s expertise in the Bodybuilding industry, has come together to bring you Mick Souza Competition Wear. These are posing suits custom- made and fitted for the serious athlete.
Also, 2017 brought the introduction of the French Bulldog Collection. It is a line of high-end canine couture inspired by Carla’s muse, Sir Great Gatsby.
